On-Device Processing

All features of XYLO operate entirely on your device:

Document scanning uses Apple's Vision framework (on-device OCR)
AI summarization & chat — On devices with 8 GB+ RAM, XYLO uses Apple Intelligence (FoundationModels framework) with no download required. On 6 GB devices, it uses Gemma 4 Edge (Google, Apache 2.0) running via llama.cpp, downloaded once during setup
Semantic search uses Apple's NLEmbedding for on-device retrieval-augmented generation
Document analysis uses Apple's NaturalLanguage framework for keyword extraction, sentiment analysis, and entity recognition
Voice chat & audio recording use Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer and AVSpeechSynthesizer — all on-device

No text, images, or analysis results are ever transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party.

Data Storage

All data generated by the App is stored locally on your device:

Analysis results stored in the app's local SwiftData database
Source files stored in the app's local Documents directory
AI models On 8 GB+ devices, Apple Intelligence is built in (no download). On 6 GB devices, the Gemma model is downloaded once from Hugging Face and stored locally
User preferences stored in local UserDefaults
Chat conversations stored in-memory during sessions, optionally persisted locally

You can delete all stored data at any time from Settings. Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored data.

Network Usage

The App makes network requests only for these limited purposes:

AI model download (6 GB devices only) — On devices with 6 GB RAM, the App downloads the Gemma 4 Edge model from Hugging Face during initial setup. Devices with 8 GB+ RAM use Apple Intelligence and require no download at all.

In-App Purchase (optional) — If you choose to upgrade to Lifetime Access, the App communicates with Apple's StoreKit servers to process the purchase. No personal data is shared with us.

No other network requests are made. No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking.

Camera Permission

Camera is used solely for capturing document images for OCR text extraction. Photos are processed on-device and stored locally. They are never uploaded or transmitted. You can revoke camera permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

Microphone Permission

Microphone is used for audio recording and voice chat. Audio is transcribed on-device using Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer with on-device recognition enabled. No audio data is uploaded, stored externally, or transmitted to any server. You can revoke microphone permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

Third-Party Services

The App does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The App does not contain ads. Third-party interactions are limited to: (1) a one-time AI model download from Hugging Face on 6 GB devices, and (2) Apple's StoreKit for optional in-app purchases.

Children's Privacy

The App does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The App is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages.
